Is this what Wirksworth needs? Someone to liaise with all the active groups and take up the ideas that are currently coming through on this forum.

Maybe the role could be called a Community Development Officer, not only liaise with groups but source funds for development grants for community groups and town centre improvements
I'm sure funding for the role could be found from lottery funding etc.

Haven't we got enough managers already? Mayor + corporation, NOW, festival board, other bodies and busy-bodies.
It may seem like a positive move but it's a bit like setting on a consultant - an excuse for not doing anything until the grants have been applied for and the report delivered; a nine day wonder which is then rapidly forgotten, but the budget has been spent!

why do'es everyone think so negativly???--- is this the reason nothing gets done because of all the negative reaction?? all i am saying is to have a getogether to see if any of the idas are fesable, then think aout the the next move etc.

Having previously lived in Wirksworth for over 4 years as the Landlord of The Hope & Anchor and now living in Lincolnshire I get to see the town from a visitors perspective. I would have to say that Wirksworth is well ahead of its game and puts many other towns to shame.
Wirksworth is full of very talented people doing great things to help make Wirksworth a success. This is only achieved by the talent available in the town and some great organising to bring that talent to the masses.
However there is still a great deal of "one upmanship" and one group suggests it's another groups responsibility to do something without actually actioning a plan to resolve the particular issue raised. Around the batten goes to all the various groups and nothing ever gets resolved.
What all these groups need to realise is that you are all working towards the same goal, just along different paths. This goal is to make WIRKSWORTH GREAT!!
All these talented people need to do what they are talented at doing, and the the things they are not talented at doing need to be passed on to other talented people so that they can do them instead.
Come on Wirksworth, work together, talk to each other and achieve what you are more than capable of doing !!!
This is a nice surprise! Welcome to the board, Simon. It is good to get an outsider's perspective and Simon who was a director of the NOW board until he left for Lincolnshire, couldn't be more suited to give us his honest opinion.
What he said about Wirksworth being great from an outsider's perspective, is very often confirmed when we meet others from around these parts. Believe it or not, Wirksworth is seen to be at the forefront of new initiatives - our 'green' shopping bags is a prime example!
And he is right when he says there is talent in the town. It needs coordination...that's all.
Just going back to E Boulton's first comment about how to "take up the ideas that are currently coming through on this forum".
Perhaps a first thing would be to promote and develop this forum itself and get more people involved.
How do we do this?
cheers
Jacob
PS and a monthly (fortnightly?) Wirksworth news sheet would help to circulate ideas. A lot comes back to the Wirksworth Communications Black Hole and how we deal with this. Frinstance - where can we read about the festival, after the event? Answer: absolutely nowhere! Very strange IMHO.

Yes to a news letter, but you are back to the same hot potato, how will edit it print it etc, I still belive that the meadows project, will bring the talants of wirksworth together. At this time are we not looking towards making wirksworth a more greener, more pretty place to live?? and bringing thses ideas to the fore?? when that has happened then would that not be the time to bring all groups together??

Could be a NOW project? Could be called WIRKSWORTH NOW perhaps?
We already have the snazzy little logo:

Is it me??? but we seem to be running around like headless chickins saying the same things?? and not geing any further, all I am asking is the anyone like myself who would like to wirksworth move on. ie the coming together of like minds and maybe taking a new move towards bringing the town together with another avenue besides the carival, the fesitval.and hopefully the market.

Could Wirksworth in Bloom be the answer?
