The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wazir_Akbar_Khan) district of Kabul (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabul), who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazara_people) servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_invasion_of_Afghanistan), the mass exodus of refugees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_refugees) to Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan) and the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), and the rise of the Taliban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban) regime.
