Joan - have you searched John Palmer's amazing website "Welcome to Wirksworth Parish records 1600-1900"? It's difficult to navigate but well worth the effort.

My Grt Grt Gran was Phoebe Frith, born c 1826. wirksworth. Daughter of Henry Frith & Hannah Gratton.
Phoebe married Richard Godbehere. Also from Wirkworth.
They ended up living & dying in Stockport cheshire.
Anyone still in wirksworth with ancestors by any of these names?

There was a reply to this message that I, as a moderator looked at last night. Unfortunately the same message was duplicated many times over but I carried on validating them. When it came to the 5th (same message), I invalidated it. This unfortunately had the affect of invalidating them ALL. I am very sorry about this and wonder if the message writer could write his/her message again.

Henry Frith was my great grandfather. My father recalls his Aunt Maggie speaking about Phoebe.

A Mr Frith (senior) who used to run a business Frith and Son lives at 16 Coldwell Street and his son John Frith still runs a building business from Blind Lane. He is regarded by some as the person who best understands the needs of old buildings in Wirksworth and ofeten does reparation work on St Mary's and the Almshouses.

John Frith now lives in Carsington 2 doors away from the church
