Films for Festival this year
On Wednesday September 16 Wirksworth Film are showing a Palestinian film PARADISE NOW. It is a thought provoking yet disturbing film about two suicide bombers preparing an attack on Tel Aviv. It is not gratuitously violent and is not a Palestinian propaganda film, but a skilfully crafted work that explores the Middle East conflict from the experience of two brothers. The film was nominated and won a number of awards. The narrative is slow moving but always against a background of tremendous tension.
A limited number of Middle Eastern platters will be on sale, starting at 6.45, the profits going to Humans Without Borders - an Israeli charity that helps Palestinian children needing medical treatment.
On Wednesday 23 there will be a showing of HILARY AND JACKIE - a film about the 'cellist Jacqueline du Pre (who eventually died of a wasting disease) and her sister - rivals in ambition and love. THE SUNDAY TIMES described it as 'One of the best Bitish films of the decade'.
Wirksworth Film hopes to see you at one or both films. Tickets £5 at the door on the night, Wirksworth Town Hall. (7.30)
