All welcome.

Philip French, film critic of The Observer concludes his review of Cous Cous by saying: "There's a lot of suspense here, which continues up to the last moment and includes a climactic belly dance. Triumph or disaster? I will not reveal which. Ultimately, however, this movie about exile, loneliness, the nature of families, self-respect and the pursuit of dreams encompasses comedy and tragedy with understanding, compassion and a total absence of sentimentality."

Showing at The Town Hall on Friday 9 October at 7.30 pm. Bar opens at 7.0 pm.

Default Next film - In Bruges

Couscous was an excellent choice. Kept me gripped to the end.
May I recommend In Bruges, the next film on the programme, which I have seen. It's about 2 Irish hitmen sent by their boss to lay low in the most obscure place he can think of (Bruges) while the heat dies down. Far from being dullsville, Bruges turns out to be full of surreal life involving, dwarves, drugs and stomach-aching black comedy. Quite fancy seeing it again!

Thanks for your recommendation, Pam. Yes, the next film to be screened by Wirksworth Film is In Bruges on Friday, 13 November at 7.30. Bar opens at 7.0 pm. All films shown are given a brief introduction at the start. More often than not, this is given by the Chair, Colin Humphreys. Occasionally, another member of the committee obliges. But it always makes for a friendly opening to the evening. In fact, it is a very friendly society! All films are shown in the Town Hall, Wirksworth.
