What are the aims of Wirksworth.Net?
Wirksworth.Net aims to develop a web site and associated online tools to provide a digital information source to the people of Wirksworth and the surrounding area. The resource will include opportunities for local people and groups to air views and to contribute content. Through the process of involving many people in the process, the project should also contribute to the development of IT skills in the area.
Who runs Wirksworth Dot Net?
The web site is run primarily by volunteer members. Membership of Wirksworth Dot Net is open to anyone who lives or works in the area. For more information contact us via email (see link on home page)
How can groups contribute to the content on Wirksworth.Net?
Local groups are welcome to take responsibility for a section of the site and to add their own content. By doing so your group is accepting to join the partnership and to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Your group should then nominate a person to have responsibility for your user name and password and to ensure that your content is kept up to date.
How can individuals contribute to the content on Wirksworth.Net?
Individuals are very welcome to join the editorial team and assist by producing stories, features and images.
How much technical skill is needed to contribute to the web site?
Adding simple text is very easy and is just like sending an e-mail using Hotmail! You type in your username and password and with three simple clicks you are ready to type! Regular workshop sessions are run at Anthony Gell School, where anyone is welcome to come along and have a go with expert help on hand.
For the more adventurous it is possible to upload pictures and files and also to add pages written in HTML code. An online user guide to the software is available at http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/typo3_tut/
Is any training available?
There are regular informal workshops held at Anthony Gell School - the next one is on Wed 13th December 7 - 9 p.m. They are open to anyone who would like to come and have a go.
How did Wirksworth Dot Net come to be set up?
This project grew from the successful campaign to establish wirelesss broadband in the area. Many members of that Digital Wirksworth campaign group wanted to make sure that once broadband was achieved, that the local community were able to gain maximum benefit from online technology. A Saturday seminar was run in March 2004 which effectively launched the present Wirksworth Dot Net Project.
The Project has benefited from support provided from the NOW project (New Opportunities for Wirksworth) the Derbyshire Community Education Service, and Wirksworth Connect Ltd.
