Welcome to the Phoenix Choir page!

News Update at 20th May 2005

Where has the year gone? well half of it anyway!

The Phoenix Choir is busy and preparing for a summer concert on 16th July 2005. This concert will take place at 8.00pm in the Wirksworth Baptist church.

This promises to be a good show with Haydn's Te Deum being performed with organ accompanyment from Chris Dixon. Chris has kindly agreed to perform a couple of organ solos as well. Our conductor Vlastimil Jarunek will be playing the piano with solo pieces of his choice. So, we are looking forward to a varied programme and hope you will be minded to attend.

We are gratefull to the Baptist church for agreeing to stage our concert, particularly since the building has undergone a major interior facelift over the recent months. In addition to it's splendid tiered hall there is a new look to the lower room facilities.

Fancy having a go?

Wirksworth Phoenix Choir welcomes new members at any time.  The choir meets every Wednesday evening in term time from 19.45-21.30 at Wirksworth Junior School.

We sing a wide range of music, from Haydn to Bartok, from Schubert to Copland. We also sing folk songs from around the world, Gospel music and much more. We also have fun and enjoy some social events.

Our conductor, Vlastimil Jarunek, (also accomplished on the accordion, amongst other instruments!) brings us his inspired musicality, and works with us towards performances at various local venues.

If you would like to join the choir, either drop in to any Wednesday practice - there are no auditions - or phone (01629) 824788 for more information.
