Hello!
Firstly on behalf of the Well Dressing and Carnival Committee, may I welcome you all to our historic town of Wirksworth, to join us in our Well Dressing and Carnival festivities for 2007.
As this is my first year as Chairman may I express my gratitude to all the hard working and dedicated carnival committee members and helpers without them the tradition of carnival day would not continue.  There have been many changes over the last 18 months and recently with the sad loss of one of our most senior members and very dear friend Betty Learoyd who served the committee well over the last 14 years she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Our thanks go to all the well dressers who painstakingly work day and night to ensure the wells are in pristine condition before they are assembled and displayed to grace our town during well dressing week.
This years selection night was a little disappointing as we only had a Rosebud and a Princess, it looked at first that we would be having this years carnival with no queen, then in April 3 more girls came forward, thanks to them we now have a Queen and full retinue may I wish all our girls well and have every success both in our Carnival and wherever they attend.
May I finish by saying thank you to you all supporting the Wirksworth carnival, we will be donating money to the Wirksworth Care Home project.
Please enjoy yourselves over the carnival festivities; we hope the weather will be more kind to us than it was last year!
