The GIMP
The GIMP will do virtually everything that most of us ever need from a photo and image manipulation programme, a special film version (also available to download) put Scooby Doo into the 2 recent films and is available for Windows (it works fine on most Win98 systems despite the warnings it may not), Mac OSX, Linux and Unix. Just click here and take a look:

Noiseware
Ever noticed how digital photos, particularly ones taken in poor light, have a speckled appearance? That is electronic 'noise' caused by your (and every other) camera. Noiseware fixes this and a basic version (but it does all I need) is available for free download. Various paid for versions are also available costing between $24 and $69. Sadly it is only available for windows I'm afraid!

Rawshooter Essentials
If your digital camera will take pictures in 'raw' format these will give you the best results. The slight downside of raw format is that you need to do a bit of work on your computer to 'develop' the file and get the best picture. Rawshooter essentials is a freeware package that can automate the workflow of your raw files. Windows only at the moment.
