Open Office

We all know that the big software companies would have us believe that\the only office software worth having, to do our presentations, spreadsheets and wordprocessing, will cost several hundred pounds to buy plus another couple of hundred every few years to keep it working.

This is not true.

Try OpenOffice, its free to download or you can buy a CD-ROM from any number of places (listed on the site below) for a few pounds for Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD.

It does very well at word processing, spreadsheets and presentations and if you need databases will link with mySQL to provide all the power you could want.

It does everything you are likely to need, is stable and will happily read and write a whole host of other file formats, including Microsoft Office besides its owm xml format.
