Wirksworth Pre-School Playgroup was established in May 1965. It is a private, not-for-profit organisation, run by qualified staff and managed by an elected committee of parents.
Our aims are:
- To enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age, in a parent-involving, community-based group
- To provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment
- To work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.
We offer your child:
- A specially tailored curriculum linked to approved learning outcomes
- Individual care and attention made possible by a high ratio of adults to children
- Fun and friendship with other children and adults
- The support of a personal keyworker
- Opportunities for you and your family to be directly involved in the activities of the group and in your child’s progress.
Our pre-school meets for morning sessions (9–11.30am) and afternoon sessions (12.45–3.15pm), Monday to Friday.
Our pre-school offers care and education to children from the age of two-years-and-six-months to school age. It is our intention to make our pre-school genuinely accessible to families from all sections of the community.
Our pre-school is part of the Early Years Partnership and receives government funding for children from the term after their third birthday. We are registered with OFSTED and follow the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum.
Within the group, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. Our keyworker system enables us to ensure a planned curriculum tailored to the needs of each individual child. By means of developmentally appropriate play activities and a high level of individual input leading to nationally approved learning goals, children are prepared to progress with confidence within the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum.
